# Suppression list

> The addresses your team never writes to again.

The suppression list blocks an address **for the whole team**, whatever the list. Nothing is sent to it (campaign, automation, confirmation), it cannot be added to a list, and an import does not bring it back.

You reach it through **Contacts → Suppression list**; the button says how many addresses it holds.

## How an address gets there

| Reason | Where it comes from |
| ------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Hard bounce** | The provider reports that the address does not exist, or refuses it for good. See [Provider feedback](/deliverability/feedback). |
| **Spam complaint** | The person clicked "This is spam" in their mailbox. |
| **Added manually** | By the team (the **Block** button, an action on a record), by importing a list, or because the person said they never signed up. |

A hard bounce or a complaint **also unsubscribes** the person from every list they were on.

## Block an address

At the top of the page: the address, an optional note ("Asked for by management"), **Block**.

## Import and export

* **Import a list**: paste addresses separated by line breaks, commas or semicolons, with one note for all of them. Handy for bringing over the blocklist of an older tool.
* **Export the list**: a CSV file with the address, the reason, the note and the date.

## Take an address off

The bin on a row unblocks the address. Only do it when the person asked you to: an address that hard-bounced will bounce again, and someone who complained will complain again.
