# The gallery

> Five layouts and eight e-mails already written, in your brand: nobody starts from an empty page.

The gallery offers two things: **layouts**, to make a [template](https://docs.lekalao.com/content/templates.md) of in one click, and **starter e-mails**, written for a campaign or an automation. Each thumbnail is rendered by the sending engine itself, in your brand and with sample values: what you see is what your readers will see. **See it full size** opens it larger.

## Where it is offered

| Where | What is offered |
| - | - |
| **Templates → New template**, **Start from a layout** | The five layouts, or **An empty page**. |
| **Campaigns → New campaign**, **Start from** | The eight starter e-mails, or **An empty page**. |
| **Automation e-mails → New e-mail**, **Start from** | The eight starter e-mails, those an automation usually sends first, or **An empty page**. |

The empty pages offer it too: **Start from a layout** on an empty template list, **Start from a starter e-mail** on an empty campaign list and an empty list of automation e-mails.

## Five layouts

| Layout | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Classic** | Your logo above a white sheet, the small print beneath it. Suits almost everything. |
| **Gazette** | A masthead with your logo and a coloured rule, like the front page of a paper. For newsletters. |
| **Plain letter** | No frame, a narrow column: reads like an e-mail from a person. Often lands in the main inbox. |
| **Spotlight** | A band in your colour across the top. For an announcement, an offer, an invitation. |
| **Storefront** | Your logo, the content, then three reassurances a customer looks for: payment, delivery, help. |

Each one carries, in its footer, the unsubscribe link, the preferences link and your postal address: a campaign poured into it is in order with nobody having to remember. Each is built from tables, so Outlook reads it as well as Apple Mail; its columns stack on a phone, and its colours are written for dark mode too.

**Create the template** saves it, under the layout's name unless you give another, and opens it in the **HTML** editor. It is yours from then on: change what you like, then choose it for a campaign.

### Your brand, copied once

A layout takes the [brand](https://docs.lekalao.com/content/brand.md) when you create the template: your colours, typefaces and logo are written into its HTML. A brand colour that would be too pale to read is darkened until it reads (a contrast of 4.5:1), and keeps its hue.

Changing the brand afterwards does not change that template. Edit its HTML, or create the template again from the gallery.

The words of the footer ("You receive this e-mail because…", **Your preferences**, **Unsubscribe**) are written in the language of your interface at that moment.

## Eight starter e-mails

| Starter e-mail | What it says | Subject |
| - | - | - |
| **Monthly newsletter** | What is new, a date for the diary and one thing learned, in three short parts. | The month in three minutes |
| **Sale** | One clear offer, a code, a deadline, and the conditions in plain words. | 20% off everything, until Sunday |
| **Product launch** | Something new: what it is, why it is better, and where to get it. | You asked for it. It is here. |
| **Event invitation** | What, when and where at a glance, and one button to say yes. | You are invited: Thursday the 27th, 6 p.m. |
| **Announcement** | A change people need to know about — new hours, a new address — said in a few lines. | New opening hours from the 1st |
| **Welcome** | Thanks a new subscriber, says what they will receive and how often, and asks one question. | Welcome — here is what to expect |
| **We miss you** | Asks quiet subscribers whether they still want to hear from you, and makes leaving easy. | Shall we keep writing to you? |
| **Order follow-up** | A few days after a purchase: checks that all is well, then asks for a review. | How is your order? |

The last three come first when you create an automation e-mail.

A starter e-mail is written in **Visual blocks**: while one is chosen, the panel does not ask for an editor. The e-mail opens ready, with its name and its subject unless you typed your own: "The e-mail is written. Put in your own words, links and pictures, then send yourself a test."

Most of its buttons have no address yet, since only you know it. In a campaign, **Check for readers** points out each one before you send. See [Preview and checks](https://docs.lekalao.com/content/checks.md).

### In which language

| For | The e-mail is written in |
| - | - |
| **A campaign** | The language of its list, when Lekalao's interface speaks it (English or French); otherwise the language of your interface. |
| **An automation e-mail** | The language of your interface: the e-mail belongs to no list yet. |

The thumbnails of the campaign panel follow the list chosen above them. For the other languages of your readers, add [translations](https://docs.lekalao.com/content/languages.md).

### Your brand, as every block e-mail

A starter e-mail follows the brand like every e-mail made of blocks: change the brand and its next sends follow. Only your logo is copied in, as an image block, when the e-mail is written.

On its own, it carries your logo at the top and, at the bottom, the reason the reader receives it, **Your preferences**, **Unsubscribe**, your team's name and your postal address. In a campaign that uses a **Template**, it is only the body: the layout brings its header, and the footer is added only when the template does not already carry the unsubscribe link and the address. Choose the template in the panel and the thumbnails show the starter e-mails inside it.

The pictures of **Sale**, **Product launch** and **Event invitation** come with Lekalao and are served from its own address. Replace them with yours.
