On a self-hosted installation, billing is usually switched off: Settings → Billing says “Billing is off on this installation” and every limit is open.
Settings → Billing. Every member reads it; only owners choose a plan, pay, and fill in the billing details.

Your plan

The card at the top says where the team stands and what comes next, in sentences, with a badge: The days are counted whole, the last one included: a trial that ends in 13 days and 2 hours has 14 left.

Usage

Two gauges:
  • Subscribers: the active subscribers of every list, against the plan’s limit;
  • E-mails sent this month: campaigns, automations and transactional together.
A gauge turns red past 90 %.

Plans

Five plans, the same limits in every currency: Free is wide because Lekalao does not sell the sending: your provider bills you for the e-mails, so a plan here costs what it holds rather than what it sends. Two choices sit above the cards and settle what the prices say: the length — 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months — and the Currency. Each card then shows what that plan costs for that length and, past one month, what the month comes to: “FCFA 13,500 a month, paid once for 6 months”. Choose this plan opens the payment for the length and the currency on screen; your current plan is marked Your plan. A plan with no price in that currency for that length says Not sold in this currency. Under the two choices, three lines answer what is asked before paying: why this currency, how you pay in it (see Paying), and, when the service shows one, the tax the prices hold: “Prices include VAT at 19.25 %; every payment gets its invoice.” Moving from a paid period to Free asks first, Move to the free plan now?: the paid period ends today, and the days left are not refunded. Keep the paid period waits until it ends instead; nothing renews on its own.

The first fourteen days

A new team starts on the plan the person who signs up chose on the public site: the sign-up page carries it, as /register?plan=growth. Without one, it starts on the plan the service gives every new account. A team that opens on Starter, Growth or Pro sends for fourteen days before paying anything. Free and Scale carry no trial: a paid plan that is not tried is not handed out, and the team starts on Free instead. Nothing is asked for during those days, and an installation may set its own number of days in place of the plan’s. A second team of the same account is not tried for free: it starts on Free. When the days are over without a payment, the team goes back to Free within the hour, and its owners and the billing address receive an e-mail. Nothing is lost: what is beyond Free’s limits stays, but new subscribers and e-mails past them are refused until a plan is paid.

How long you pay for

A period lasts 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, and one payment covers it whole. The longer the period, the less the month costs: Free stays free, whatever the period.

Prices

Free is 0 in all six currencies. The other four, in one payment: find your currency, read the period.

Your currency

Lekalao offers the currency of the country your team is in: That is an offer, not a verdict: the Currency chooser takes any of the six until you pay, and the prices follow at once. Your first payment settles it. The chooser is then locked and the page says “Your currency was settled by your first payment. Write to us to change it.” Travelling, or paying with a card issued elsewhere, changes nothing to what you pay.

Payments

Nothing renews by itself. One payment covers one period, and Lekalao never takes money without you.

Paying

Who takes the money depends on the currency, and the page says it under the plans:
  • where Mobile Money reaches (XAF, XOF, NGN, KES): “In XAF you pay by Mobile Money or by card, through Wajub.”;
  • elsewhere (EUR, USD): “In EUR you pay by card, through Stripe.”
Both take one-time payments only: no subscription, and no card kept. Choose this plan leads to their payment page; back from it, Lekalao asks at once where the payment stands. Where payments are taken by hand, the page says “Payments are recorded by hand on this installation.”, and the period opens once the money is marked as received.

The reminders

Three e-mails, and no more: seven days before the period ends, the day before, and the morning it ends. Each goes to the billing address and to every owner of the team. Each says that nothing is taken automatically, and carries a Choose a period and pay button that leads back to this page. Paying again takes the same road: the length, the currency, Choose this plan. A payment that goes through extends the period from the end of the one before it, so paying on the first reminder loses no day.

The list

Payments: the last twelve, with their date, plan, amount and status, and the invoice of each one paid: Check again asks the provider where a waiting payment stands, when the confirmation is slow.

Invoices

Every paid period gets its invoice, at the moment the payment extends it. Moving to Free gets none: no money changed hands. The number reads LKL-2026-000123: a prefix, the year of issue, then the order of issue in that year. Numbers run without a gap and are never given twice. An invoice, once issued, never changes. It carries the seller, your billing details, the plan, the period, the amounts and how it was paid, as they stood that day. Change your details and the next invoices carry them.

Reading and printing

Invoices, on the billing page: Invoice number, Date, Period and Amount, the newest first. Every member can open them.
  • Open shows the invoice, an A4 page in the language it was issued in.
  • PDF opens it ready to print. Choose “Save as PDF” as the printer to keep a file; on the invoice itself, Download PDF does the same.

The receipt

When the money arrives, a receipt goes to the billing address and to every owner, in the language of the invoice: “Lekalao: payment received, invoice LKL-2026-000123”. It says what was received, which plan it pays for and until when. View the invoice opens the invoice without signing in: the billing address is often an accountant’s, who has no account.

Billing details

What the next invoices carry, filled in by the owners. One already issued keeps what it said. Save, and the next invoices carry them.

Falling behind

At the end of the period, a grace time (7 days by default) leaves room to pay: Payment late. Past it, sending is paused: “Campaigns and automations are paused. Pay for a period below, or move to the Free plan, and they start again; nothing was deleted.” The lists, subscribers, campaigns and statistics are untouched, and sending starts again as soon as the payment goes through.
